California Water Awareness Month

In coordination with the California Water Awareness Campaign, the Twentynine Palms Water District will be observing the month of May 2008 as "Water Awareness Month".

In preparation for this observance, the District has been working to promote public awareness about the vital role of water and the importance of its conservation and protection.

Helpful tips were included in each water bill and a brochure (Adobe PDF) was made available at the District's customer service desk highlighting water conservation and protection ideas.  This brochure was also made available at the offices of the Twentynine Palms City Hall, City Library and Chamber of Commerce.

In addition, the District continued to provide its water education program for schools in the District's service area.  During this school year, the District offered all 4th, 5th and 6th grade educators the opportunity to have a representative provide a presentation to their students about their local water supply and the importance of water conservation and protection.

Along with this program, the District sponsored its second annual poster contest which was open to all 4th, 5th and 6th grade students in the area.   The 1st place winner is to receive a $50 US Savings Bond and the 2nd and 3rd place winners will each receive a $25 US Savings Bond.  Contest prizes were kindly sponsored by the Morongo Basin Conservation Association.  The winning posters will be on display at the TPWD offices and will be featured on this website as a way to celebrate and promote water conservation and education.  Presentation of the awards will be made at the beginning of the District's Board of Directors meeting scheduled for Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. at the District offices.
